EXPATRIATE CITIZENSHIP
An expatriate can be defined as an alien who has taken up a job or employment of any kind in a country other than their country of origin. The Immigration Act defines an Alien pursuance to Section 52(1) as: any person not a commonwealth citizen or a citizen of Eire. The commonwealth countries as stated in the Diplomatic immunities & Privileges Act, Cap.D9, LFN 2004 as follows: UK & colonies, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Malaysia, Singapore, Cyprus, Sierra Lean, Tanzania, Uganda, Jamaica, Ireland and others as the Minister may by order in the Federal Gazette. Probation can simply be defined as a process or period in which a person’s fitness, as for work or membership in a social group, is tested. It is normal practice that after this probationary period which could be 3 months, 6 months or 1 year etc., the employee in question is confirmed, or not confirmed. There is no fixed period for probation and the Nigerian Labour Act is silent on this subject. Continue reading
The National Youth Service Scheme was established in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war by decree No.24 of 22nd May 1973. This act stated that the NYSC is being established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”. Organizations nationwide accept youth corps members that make up a very essential part of its skilled workforce.
