It is no longer “news” that American University of Nigeria (known to many as Abti) has turned to be the most preferred Nigerian University over the time. The leeway of 24 hours uninterrupted electricity, wireless campus, sets of modern, attractive infrastructures with state-of-the-art facilities that facilitate learning is propelling American University of Nigeria to achieve its dream of becoming African number one university.

Evidently, there is uniqueness behind this concept of AUN, an acronym for American University of Nigeria. Many parents in Nigeria have begun to send their children down from various part of the world with the motivation that there is no point when we can get the same quality of education here in Nigeria. By all indications, the quality of education here is comparable to any world class university abroad.

One thing that distinguishes AUN is the style. AUN does not only give you education, it also gives you the passion of exhibiting your skills, it gives you ethics and social orientations that will enable you make a difference in your chosen career, It gives you the mental depth of knowledge and it gives you the ideology of adding value to society.

AUN’s approach to education helps its students to be creative and to be problem solver. That is why AUN products are distinguished in terms of efficiency. This is not suggesting other students from other universities are deprived but our methodology makes the difference. Sharing perception with an AUN student could enhance your hope for better Nigeria because our experiences are invaluable.

The academic works in AUN is also worthy of highlights. The American curriculum and system of education is tasking. As such, Professors demand that students operate with precision at all time. Also, students are often divided into groups and saddled with real time global significant projects and big challenges thereby affording students a vantage avenue to think critically, analyse and work on scientific model.

All the professors teach with uncommon passion and enthusiasm. They are humble and approachable; ready to solve your problem at anytime. Their strict and courageous, inexorable stance only comes to the fore against broadside of laziness, indulgence and other unacceptable practices. Abel Ajibesin and Prof. Augustine Odinma are two professors that have exposed me to researching and sharpened my mind for innovative and creative thoughts in the field of Telecommunications and Wireless Technologies. I value the duo of these professors as much as I value the virtue they put in me and as much as I value AUN.

All the recent technologies for academic environment all over the world exist in AUN. Online Voting Software, the generic Moodle system, SQUAD, banner system and library online database and input system and cafeteria swiping machine. AUN is a unified campus with easy access to information.

There are several social clubs on AUN campus that have professional affiliation and independent recognition with respective international conglomerate bodies. We have the International Relations Club, Press Club, Microfinance Group, Speech and Debate Club, Drug Free Club, Basketball Club, Swimming Club, Society for Ethics and Leadership, IEEE, SIFE and many others where Students put to test their social and professional skills. Students are engaged in activities where they brainstorm to solve in bits the myriad of challenges confronting the present society. In many cases, AUN students travel around the world for exchange programmes not only on academic matters but also, social initiatives.

AUN students are also unique for their spirit of community service. Students go to town every Friday for community service and each Dorm has community projects to execute. Students model real life economic situation within the Yola community and work out modalities that touch lives. Within my last four years in AUN, my orientation has changed completely. I have developed the sense of social entrepreneurship, I became more humanitarian and I developed the spirit of nationalism. This is the kind of value AUN is putting in its students making it a symbol of reassurance for ethical leadership in Africa.

Even though it is clear everyone cannot have the opportunity to explore the galore of this university. It has shown a prospect of being a dynamic agent of change, promoting civil society and economic development in Africa region whereby everyone will invariably be imparted.
