AUN Gets Blog Site
In a move to strengthen corporate communications at AUN, the PR & Communications department will be launching the official blog page of the University today.
This was preceded by an earlier unprecedented move to entrench internal communications across the social media – Facebook, Twitter and others. The blog site is hosted on the web server currently accessible at http://www.americanuniversitynigeria.org/blog
Consequently, all news and reports about AUN will be directed to this page henceforth. The blog project was completed last week by the Web Development Unit of the department, spearheaded by Alvin Forteta, the University Webmaster.
“As AUN continues to grow and expand its tentacles across the various shores of the world, there is need for a common platform that will unite us, and show our coherent body of thoughts and ideologies. Online solutions like this, is a perfect resource for such endeavor,’’ Alvin said.
“The blog site will serve as a twin web to the University’s official website in such a way that prospective students can get to it in order to know more about the integral practice and popular trends at AUN. Blogs from students, faculty members, staff, and alumni will appear on the page from time to time and these will be staged in categories.”
He expressed delight in the completion of the project and acknowledged the group of students that contributed towards it: Jahath Beneth, a senior majoring in Computer Science; Adonye Adafe-Jaja, a junior majoring in Information Systems, and Idongesit Ebong, a junior majoring in Business Administration.
“Although the page is being launched today, it is still at its nascent stage and we shall continue to welcome feedbacks from everyone to enable us enhance it,” the Webmaster added.
Olasunkanmi Ogundare, a Telecommunications Senior and PRC’s social networking specialist also told AUNthisWEEK, “The blog site is meant to be an avenue to consolidate views and online activities from AUN community members. Every day, people go to Facebook, Bebo, Reddit, myblog, and other online media to share posts, but we now have a platform unique to AUN as a community.
“The blog will also afford students and other members of the community the opportunity to discuss contemporary global topics. He encouraged students to make use of this platform to share pictures, videos, posts and comments, as he unveils plans to incorporate it with the Quest social network.
Mr. Verse Shom, the outgoing Alumni Relations Coordinator, said, “It is great that we finally have this kind of platform as it has been a dream here for long.” Similarly, Mohammed Santali, the SGA President, who was earlier invited to the planning forum, was satisfied while he launched the student category blog post with an article “Homecoming Appreciation”.
With the advent of an official blog page for the University, people should know where to go now to get news from the University, and to see posts from other members of the community. The blog page will relay all news reports from every corner of the University and it will cover all events on campus.
Also, upcoming activities will be posted at the right corner of the page to enable people have the opportunity to follow up with events and campus activities. The PR office is currently recruiting volunteer-bloggers in consultation with the Writing Center. Students interested in blogging have been advised to sign up by sending emails to socialnetworks@aun.edu.ngThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This is a further demonstration that, AUN is here to stay and to compete with any Higher Institutions around the World. Well done Alvin Forteta, the University Webmaster.
