Two Win ‘Employee of the Month’ at AUN Club

Too rarely do we hear about the accomplishments of those back shop hands who work so hard to make success possible. This must be why AUN Club decided last May to start an “Employee of the month” prize, designed to recognize Club staff.

The program, which rewards front of the house (waiters, cashiers, and receptionists) and back of the house (cooks, chefs, housekeepers, gardeners, life guards, and management) at the Clubhouse every month, is the first of its kind for the University community relaxation spot.

AUN Hotel Manager, Mr. Samer Naoum, who initiated the prize, says, “It is part of motivating the staff,” making them feel appreciated and giving them something to add to their resumes.

Mr. David Babangida, a waiter, and Ms. Delphine Jonas, a cook at the Club for six years, are the first two winners.

When asked how she felt about winning the prize, Ms. Jonas said she was, “happy and more relaxed at work,” and that this is her second such prize; the University authorities similarly honored her a couple of years ago. With three years of catering experience, Ms. Jonas flaunts her culinary skills in French and Italian dishes.

According to Mr. Naoum, “employee of the month” honorees are selected through discreet observations, recommendations from satisfied customers, and comments from other staff members. “In the future winners will have their pictures posted on a board and they can win over and over again, not just once. This should be good promotion for the Club and the employees so it’s a win-win situation.”
